2 More Pieces of Cerebral Palsy News
Here's some more cerebral palsy news for you guys!First up, is 7-year-old Devin Ghaness. Cerebral Palsy has forced him to lose the ability to walk and he has to navigate the world from behind a walker. But does that stop him? Negative!
Devin told his mother that he wanted to enroll in basketball camp. She may have been a bit skeptical, however, Palm Beach Community College's Summer Youth Basketball Coach Wade Berstler said he wasn't surprised to hear about Devin's goals. Berstler, himself a disabled man, is the ideal coach. He even carries Devin on his shoulders.
"Coach makes it easy," said Devin. "What I would like to say to other boys and girls is to always follow your dreams."
In other cerebral palsy news, a long-running medical negligence case has been settled. Kris Paul Grimmett, 29, sued Dr. Graeme Bates and the ACT Government because they failed to ensure that he was born by c-section at the earliest opportunity. The original claim was filed eight years ago. Justice Malcolm Gray has been hearing the matter and yesterday the parties agreed to a judgement in favor of Dr. Bates.
Did you know that a significant number of cerebral palsy cases turn out to be due to negligence on the part of someone who is involved in the delivery process?
