25-Year-Old CP Patient Suffers Nursing Home Death
Michael Price's untimely death at the Community Presence nursing home has led to the indictment of two Kentucky men and charges against several other staff members. Price, a 25-year-old resident who was affected by cerebral palsy, died in November when he was allegedly "restrained in such a manner as to cause him to stop breathing."
Brandon Starotska was indicted this week on manslaughter, tampering with physical evidents and abuse or neglect of an adult by a caretake. Matthew Bortles was indicted in November for similar charges.
There is so little respect these days for individuals with special needs. Nursing homes should be safe havens for our loved ones, regardless of their age. While some justice is being served in Michael Price's case, nothing will bring him back. If you have a loved on in a nursing home who is affected by cerebral palsy and you suspect abuse or neglect, be sure to contact a nursing home attorney to discuss your legal options.
