Cerebral Palsy Boy to Host Fundraiser

11-year old Blair Luke is helping with a statewide telethon to raise money to help people with cerebral palsy. The annual fundraiser is performed by Cerebral Palsy of Louisiana, a nonprofit group that offers services to people with cerebral palsy throughout the state.

Some of the services that CP of Louisiana provides are helping to provide medical equipment, special shoes, and programs that include sports.

Luke sat for a televised interview with his parents as part of a broadcast from the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center. The event is one of five that are currently being held in other parts of the state.

The event is coming up in about three weeks, according to organizers.

Cerebral palsy is a condition whereby the brain is damaged due to low oxygen. This damage can cause impaired motor function and result in tremors, trouble moving around, seizures and other symptoms. It isn't curable but there are therapies and care to help manage cerebral palsy.

The fundraiser is attempting to pull in more than last year's number of $77,000, according to Kathy Aceneaux, state assistant director for the group.

Blair Luke says he enjoys car shows, going to the beach, NASCAR races and the Shrek movies.

Houma's event begins on Saturday and runs until Sunday evening.
