Cerebral Palsy Cheerleader Has Something to Yell About

Cadira Greer is a cheerleader for the North Side Middle School Braves. She has a great voice that booms out the cadence of their war chants.

"Everybody do the North Side rumble..."

She is twelve years old and has cerebral palsy. She can't tumble or do any flips and she even finds it very difficult to walk onto the gym floor. But she doesn't let this get in the way.

"She is just the epitome of what a cheerleader should be. She is just so...she's like sunshine," said her cheerleader coach, Jennifer Morgan.

Cadira prefers to avoid "handicapped" when talking about herself, and instead refers to her condition as "CP".

Cadira has had two surgeries to correct problems with her back and throat. She sometimes has to use braces to stand up straight. And she may walk with a limp and have speech problems, but Cadira's spirit is unyielding.

Cadira said she was motivated to be a cheerleader by her mom, a former cheerleader at South Side Middle School.

Cerebral palsy is a condition that is sometimes the result of medical error at birth. If your child has cerebral palsy and you suspect medical malpractice to be the cause, contact a cerebral palsy attorney right away.
