Cerebral Palsy Girl Heads to Beijing for Paralympics
Megan Muscat leaves on August 30 for Beijing as part of Canada's Paralympic team where she will compete in the 100 and 200 meter meter events."I'm so excited," she says. "I've been on Cloud 9 since Canada Day when I heard."
Megan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 18 months and has competed in world championships and won the bronze medal last year in the 200m at the Para Pan Ams in Rio de Janiero.
Megan actually started her athletic career in high school as a wrestler. "I was undefeated in the four major meets," she says.
Megan has a personal best of 15.99 in the 100m and runs under 34 in the 200m. As a matter of fact, she was ranked 10th in the world in the 200m. Amazing!
This impressive young girl graduated with a BA from St. Clair College and will go into the law program when she returns from Beijing.
Megan says that her cerebral palsy does not even phase her.
"I can handle all of it," she says. "It's like everyday life, if I can't do it one way, I will modify it to the best of my ability."
