Cerebral Palsy Girl Throws First Pitch at Baseball Game

Ter'nyia West hasn't let cerebral palsy get in the way of her goals. Just last night, she threw out the first pitch at the Danville Braves game.

West has had cerebral palsy since birth and receives physical therapy at Commonwealth Home Health Care's physical therapy clinic. She was honored when they came to her with the opportunity.

West had a huge cheering section made up of her family members who came out to support her.

"We're here to support Ter'nyia. She's a wonderful student and I'm glad to be here," Mark Dickerson, assistant principal at Schoolfield Elementary, said Wednesday night.

Ter'nyia spent a lot of time learning how to pitch.

That night, Ter'nyia and her physical therapists, Tracy Ewing and Patty Snead, helped her get to the mound and throw a ball to the catcher, who came back up to the mound afterward and presented her with the ball.

Ter'nyia was grinning from ear to ear.

"It was wonderful," her high school principal said. "I had to be here to see it. She's a delight to be around."
