What are the Legal Options Following a Birth Injury?

Finding cerebral palsy help can sometimes seem impossible. If your family has suffered because of this disorder and if medical negligence was too blame, you may have legal options. One of the most difficult parts of dealing with legal matters, however, is money. The costs of hiring representation sometimes makes it seem like it’s impossible to find someone to represent you. There are ways that you can get excellent representation, however, and you don’t have to have a lot of money on hand to do it.

cerebral palsy lawyerThere are lawyers that work under what’s called a contingency agreement. You may have seen advertisements for such firms. A cerebral palsy lawyer that works on contingency does so without collecting upfront fees. Because the family filing the lawsuit is likely already facing very significant costs related to the treatment of CP, it makes sense for lawyers who work in this field to work in this way.

Under a contingency arrangement, you don’t actually pay legal fees unless you win. There’s no guarantee that you’ll win any lawsuit that you bring, but a contingency arrangement allows you to pursue a lawsuit without taking a great deal of risk with the money you have. If you do receive compensation, it may not even require that you go to court.

There are cases that the party or parties being sued will want to settle out of court. If this happens, you don’t have to go before a jury at all. Your lawyer will help you to work out an agreement with the people you’re suing to determine how much would be required for them to avoid the lawsuit. In some cases, the compensation you receive in this way may be nearly as much as you’d have gotten from a lawsuit.

You may also have to go to court to have your case heard. Your lawyer will make sure you’re ready for this if you have to go before a jury. With good representation on your side, going to court is far less intimidating and, of course, good counsel increases the chances that you’ll win.

If you’re struggling with the costs of cerebral palsy, emotionally and financially, you may want to consider talking to a lawyer. They may be able to off you significant help in seeking compensation for what your family has been put through and the costs you still face.
