Cerebral Palsy Isn't Going to Stop This Karate Kid

Seven-year-old Connor Kemp is a champ. Despite having cerebral palsy since birth, he's decided to take up the rough n' tumble sport of karate at the Newmarket Leisure Centre with his brother Jack.

Some of the moves have been modified so Connor, who is in a wheelchair, can join in. So far he's been practicing his karate-style punches. His parents believe that Karate will help Connor to strengthen his upper body.

"Connor finds it quite tiring but absolutely loves it," his father says. "He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was 11 months old so he's had it from birth really. He's never known how to be able to walk and relies on his electric wheelchair to get around everywhere."

Conner's family was told that Connor should participate in Karate because it will help strengthen his muscles. Mr. Baker, his Karate instructor, says that he is pleased with Connor's progress so far.
