Facts Related to Birth Injury

in birth injury
Birth injury is damage caused to a newborn infant during delivery. Most of these injuries get better without treatment. Let's look at a few facts related to birth trauma:

The Numbers
The number of neonatal deaths due to birth injuries has come down in recent times. However, they are still responsible for about two percent of such deaths. The infant mortality rate due to baby injury was 64.2 per 1,000 live births in 1970. The figure had dropped to 7.5 per 1,000 live births in 1985, a decline of 88 percent. Though the number has declined significantly, babies continue to die because of birth injury.

Reasons for Improvement
The decrease in numbers is largely an outcome of the progress made in medical technology. Obstetricians today are better equipped to recognize and handle the risks associated with birth injury. This has also discouraged the use of potentially hazardous techniques such as midforceps and vacuum delivery.

Causes
Childbirth is a complicated process. It is a blend of contractions, compression, torque and traction. Intrapartum forces such as fetal size or neurologic immaturity may lead to tissue damage, hemorrhage, or even fracture in the infant. Obstetric instruments used during the process magnify the effects of these forces. Even a cesarean delivery is not a guaranteed injury-free alternative.

When Do You Need to Contact a Lawyer?
In the unfortunate event of brain damage, the parents of the baby must seek counsel from an experienced lawyer. Cerebral palsy lawyers have a good understanding of birth injury related cases and know that many possible scenarios exist. Irrespective of the happenings during pregnancy, the doctor in all probability will claim that the reasons were inevitable. If the complications occurred before labor, the doctor will claim that the damage happened even before he could diagnose the problem. If the complications occurred during labor, he will blame it on the late arrival at the hospital.
Lawyers can evaluate EVM strips and determine whether the doctor had failed to diagnose in a timely manner. The lawyers also examine the clinical markers used by the doctors during birth. This helps them establish the timing of the events and if the doctor had a legitimate reason to delay the delivery.
Parents expect a smooth delivery and a healthy baby. However, there are some cases like baby brain damage that result from injuries. If you think your child has suffered injury as a result of negligence, it is best to contact a lawyer. At Rasansky Law Firm, we have experienced attorneys who work with Dallas birth injury cases all the time, we would be happy to evaluate your case.
