Family Holds Fundraiser for Accesible Park Equipment
Many children affected by cerebral palsy have special needs when it comes to accessibility and playing "like other kids." We all know how hard it is to explain to a small child why he or she cannot go somewhere or do something like his or her peers. After years of taking their son Jarrett to the local playground only to have him sit and watch the other children play, Mike and Lisa Frush are raising funds for an all-inclusive playground in their Virginia neighborhood.Funds from last year's "A Day for Jarrett" event went to Cerebral Palsy of Virginia. With small fundraisers throughout this summer and the culminating event September 27, the Frushes hope to raise more than $100,000 for paved walkways, elevated sandboxes, wheelchair ramps and other amenities specifically for special needs children. They look at this effort as advocating "ability over disability" and giving back to the community.
All of the equipment and devices needed to help our special needs children gain access to activities and places other children use can be quite pricey. Not to mention other costs of treatment. In some cases, cerebral palsy is the result of a birth injury and you may be legally entitled to compensation - compensation that would go a long way to paying those bills. Contact a Birth Injury Attorney to discuss your rights as a parent and the potential for a birth injury lawsuit.
