Good Reasons to Contact and Attorney if Your Child has CP
If your child has suffered brain damage due to medical negligence during the birthing process, there are good reasons to consider filing a cerebral palsy lawsuit. First and foremost, the treatment of cerebral palsy is extremely expensive. In some cases, the child may need very sophisticated medical treatments to help them deal with the impacts of the disorder on their muscular system. In other situations, the child may need a great deal of specialized education and help dealing with the challenges of school, as some forms of CP tend to be accompanied by learning disorders.
Paying for the Expenses
Cerebral palsy is not an inexpensive condition to treat. The most significant reason for this is simply the fact that cerebral palsy results from a brain injury and, therefore, it never heals. This isn't a condition that only requires treatment during the child's early years. In fact, quite a few people who suffer from CP will end up needing treatment throughout their entire lives. Sometimes this treatment includes the use of assistive devices that can be very expensive. Many people who suffer from cerebral palsy have trouble walking and, just as an example, a good wheelchair can cost hundreds of dollars.
Because of the Negligence Involved
When medical negligence results in a baby brain injury, it's not fair if the parents have to foot the entire bill for their child's treatment themselves. In the future, the child themselves will be stuck paying for these medical expenses and, given that they're already going to be dealing with the challenges that come with having a significant disability, this will be orders of magnitude more difficult than it would be even for an individual who is fully capable of working and supporting themselves. When all of this could've been avoided by a doctor simply living up to the duties they owe their patients, there's no reason that the people who have already suffered should be made to suffer more.
Cerebral palsy, fortunately, does not worsen with age. The symptoms sometimes become more severe and more distressing, however. If you believe that your child's cerebral palsy was caused by medical negligence, consider consulting with an attorney to speak about the matter. They may well believe that you have good reason to file a lawsuit and, if you do, a jury may decide in your favor.
