Robots who walk the walk.
Cerebral palsy patients have difficulty with motor skills and walking can be a major learning issue. Normally therapists hold each leg of the child during therapy helping them to move the correct muscles and put their feet down in the right positions as they walk.It is very difficult for the child to get down the right movements in this slow and sometimes inaccurate process.
Along comes a robot called Lokomat with specially designed legs for children. The robot allows the children to consistently make the same walking movements as well as strengthen their muscles for more independent movement. The robot is currently being used by Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago and five other locations around the United States. Read more about the interview with the Shriner Hospital Director, Sara Klaas and check out other features of the robot Lokomat.
