Segway a Good Resource for Cerebral Palsy

15-year-old Charlotte Allen has received a $8000 Segway scooter thanks to an Education Ministry grant. Charlotte was previously having a difficult time getting too and from class because she was always tired. It was also becoming difficult for her to concentrate in class.

Someone at the college came up with Segway as a potential transportation device and the company promptly offered her a three-day trial.

A Segway is a kind of scooter that accelerates when the rider leans forward and slows down when the rider leans back. It is also narrow enough to squeeze through typical doorways and doesn't need re-charging during the day. It took Charlotte no time at all to master the controls of the scooter.

Charlotte is the first cerebral palsy patient in New Zealand to be granted a Segway. Hopefully this is a trend that will continue across the globe, as cerebral palsy can make it very difficult for college students pursuing a degree.
