Signs to Look for CP in a Child 6 Months-1 Year Old

in birth injury Brain Damage Brain Injury cerebral palsy Temporary or Permanent Paralysis
CP refers to cerebral palsy, a group of problems that arise in the brain area and result in an abnormal movement or a lack of movement. Palsy is another word for paralysis, and this condition involves some level of paralysis for newborn children. DrSpock.com. states that the idea of totally crippled children may not always be accurate and that initial signs are far more subtle, especially in the first six months of age. The doctor further states that CP can occur together with other symptoms and conditions such as "seizures, learning disabilities, or mental retardation."

Cerebral Palsy symptoms to look for at six months of age include: babies who do not seem to move one side of their body, babies who move themselves without using their feet and babies who have trouble standing. Body and Health Canada gives some other symptoms to watch out for, including an unusual rigidity or "floppiness", crossed eyes, staying in abnormal positions, seizures, unresponsiveness and apparent deafness. As the baby gets older, one year and beyond, CP symptoms become more pronounced. The child may have trouble standing or may be missing other developmental milestones.

CP results when something goes wrong in the development of the fetus or in the birth process. Sadly, a birth injury may be the result of acts of negligence by the doctor or the medical staff. A child neurologist or developmental pediatrician must examine the child to make a final diagnosis.

Remember, if your otherwise healthy baby has symptoms of cerebral palsy after a questionable medical decision was made, you may have rights to compensation for medical treatment and pain and suffering. Call the Rasansky Law Firm at 1-800-ATTORNEY. You can get a free consultation with an experienced attorney and fight for the rights of your child.
