Some Statistics About Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy following birth is caused by injury to the brain and approximately ten percent of these cases are caused by intrapartum asphyxia.

Babies that are born prematurely have a much higher risk of developing cerebral palsy because they are in a progressive stage of development. There is a much higher risk of asphyxia and other forms of brain injury that will increase the probability of cerebral palsy at this stage.

It has been recorded that two out of every 1000 babies born alive are diagnosed with cerebral palsy. In the United States, that number jumps to almost 4 out of every 1000 babies. This means that around five thousand to ten thousand babies in the United States have been born with cerebral palsy. Each year, around 1,500 pre-school aged children are detected to have CP.

Did you know that cerebral palsy is sometimes the result of medical malpractice? Birth injuries caused by physician error are an ever-increasing problem. If you suspect that your child may have cerebral palsy as the result of someone else's incompetence, contact the Law Offices of Jeff Rasansky now.
