Texas CP lawyer | Cerebral Palsy and Art

Cerebral Palsy and Art

Unfortunately, many of the people who suffer from cerebral palsy are nonverbal. They may have quite a high level of intelligence, but find it impossible to communicate verbally with others. This can be frustrating, alienating and can make it difficult for people who suffer this condition to get by in life. One of the ways that people who cannot communicate verbally can communicate with others is through art. Art therapy and simply creating art for the sake of creating art are both ways that cerebral palsy sufferers are able to interact with the world and express themselves.

Art Shows

The Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale recently reported about an art show held by United Cerebral Palsy. While not all of the participants actually suffer from cerebral palsy, they were all nonverbal. Many of them created impressive paintings that give insight into how they see the world. The exhibit, in fact, was titled "Behind Our Eyes", and was designed to provide a way for people to understand how people who cannot express their feelings and impressions about the world verbally see their environment.

While children with cerebral palsy do have specific needs that need to be attended to, many of their needs are similar to other children who suffer with mental impairments of one type or another. Because of that, it's natural for people who advocate for those who suffer with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and other impairments to work together to help those children enjoy life a bit more.

Communication

Texas CP lawyerArt is simply a form of communication, in some cases. Because people with cerebral palsy oftentimes cannot speak or control their muscles enough to use sign language, communicating through art is an important part of their lives. Fostering an interest in the visual arts can help children who would otherwise feel extremely alone in the world because of their lack of an ability to speak to feel more connected with the people around them and to share how they see the world with peers and adults.

Some of the many people who suffer with cerebral palsy acquired the condition because of an injury that was caused by medical negligence. A Texas CP lawyer can help you if this is the case with your child. Contact a Dallas cerebral palsy lawyer if you believe that medical negligence was the cause of your child's birth injury and if you want to discuss the possibility of filing a lawsuit.
