Diagnosing CP in Infants
It wasn't too long ago that an infant with cerebral palsy could be sent home from the hospital without anyone knowing that they even had a condition. It sometimes wouldn’t become apparent that there as something wrong with the child until they failed to make major milestones of development and, in those cases, it might have taken a considerable amount of time beyond that to determine that the child had cerebral palsy. Today, doctors have a range of powerful tools at their disposal to treat this disorder and, because of that, children are more likely to be diagnosed right away in the hospital rather than not being diagnosed until much later.
Scanning
Scanning technologies are vastly improved compared to where they were a few decades ago. Today, doctors can perform many different types of scans on someone without having to be invasive at all. This means that infants can be scanned to the point where the doctors can see their brain tissue and look for damage. This makes it much easier to spot the types of injuries that lead to cerebral palsy.
Labs
Laboratory technology is also much more advanced that it was in the past. Doctors can use advanced testing techniques to figure out what might be wrong with the child and to offer them appropriate treatments for any injuries they find. Laboratory testing allows doctors to eliminate certain causes of cerebral palsy like symptoms and to isolate the actual cause of the problems the infant is having.
Investigation
Because more is known about cerebral palsy than was in the past, doctors and medical investigators are more likely to find out what the actual cause of the problems an infant is having very quickly. This allows for more accurate assessments of the child so that the testing is more focused, as well. All of these tools and techniques work together to provide the child with a higher level of medical care and more appropriate medical care.
Cerebral palsy is a devastating condition, but it's best to find out about it sooner rather than later. If your child is diagnosed with CP, you have limited time to consider whether or not you want to file a lawsuit over the condition. If medical negligence turns out to have been a factor, contact a Texas CP lawyer. You'll need a cerebral palsy lawyer who is familiar with Texas laws to pursue a case against the doctor successfully.
